Our horses are our treasures. A.W.A.R.E. typically has twelve to fourteen horses in its therapeutic riding program at any one time. Individuals have donated the majority of our horses. All donations include a 60-day trial period. During the 60-day period, the instructors will evaluate the horse and its suitability to our program. Several of our horses are "leased" from their owners. The "lease" must last at least two years. During the lease, the owner may visit the horse, but cannot ride the horse or take it from the property. A.W.A.R.E. provides care but does not provide the owner with any monetary outlays.

Acceptance of horses depends on the program's needs at the time the donation is possible. The horse has to be sound in all gaits and in good health. Our herd is getting older and one of our current priorities is finding great horses in the 12-16 year age range. Horses over 15/2 are typically too tall for side walkers; therefore, we keep the number of tall horses to a minimum. The horse's temperament must be suitable for our clientele (gentle and patient).

A.W.A.R.E. currently has the following thirteen horses….
